QLD:ACCC to look into Qld road freight rates

BRISBANE, Jan 12 AAP - The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) may
be asked to investigate road freight rates in Queensland, which the Transport Workers
Union (TWU) said were forcing illegally long driving shifts.

TWU state secretary Hughie Williams said freight rates were so low drivers must work
long hours to keep their employers viable.

"Because of the fierce competition, rates are so low that drivers are being forced
by their employers to break the law," Mr Williams said.
