NSW: Raymond Terrace bypass open

SYDNEY, Dec 13 AAP - Residents of Raymond Terrace, north of Newcastle, will no longer have
to endure traffic bottlenecks during holidays with the opening of a $72 million bypass today.

New South Wales Mineral Resources Minister Bob Martin opened the bypass, which is part of a
joint $2.2 billion Pacific Highway upgrade project between the federal and state governments.

"The provision of 7.6 kilometres of divided dual carriageways bypassing Raymond Terrace
will vastly improve traffic flow," Mr Martin said in a statement.

"Road safety will be considerably improved through better and more consistent overtaking
opportunities."
